개요

Overview
The Jeju Provincial Government was established in August 1946 when Jeju was elevated from county (郡) status to provincial (道) status. USAMGIK appointed the provincial governor and maintained oversight through a U.S. military officer stationed at the provincial office. The Jeju Provincial Police Agency (제주도경찰국) and all major provincial posts remained under American supervision throughout the military government period and beyond.
Key Governors
Yu Hae-jin (유해진, 1946-1948): Appointed by USAMGIK, Yu actively pursued anti-left policies through expanded police authority and right-wing youth organization support. He served simultaneously as advisor to the 대동청년단 (Daedong Youth Corps) and collaborated with the CIC in political repression.
